Invisalign in South Korea: what Seoul clinics charge
Seoul National University Dental Hospital's and three Seoul clinics' own prices in won for Invisalign, clear aligners and braces, what national health insurance leaves out, what the orthodontists' association and the device regulator say, and the check-ups that follow if you are visiting.
Seoul National University Dental Hospital lists Invisalign from 4,590,320 won (Lite, both jaws) to 9,404,280 won; Seoul clinics post 2,500,000 won for a simple case and 5,500,000 won for a general one, both jaws. National health insurance does not cover orthodontics, and no aligner brand sells directly: a dentist fits them. Treatment runs on check-ups, so a visitor arranges who will see them at home before starting.

None of these systems publishes a won price; the clinic that fits it sets the fee. No at-home aligner brand treats in Korea
None of the at-home or online aligner brands we track says it treats patients in Korea. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety warns: “Medical devices sold through direct purchase from overseas or buying agents should not be bought, since whether the Ministry approved them cannot be known and their safety and effectiveness are not verified.” (our translation of “해외직구나 구매대행을 통해 판매되는 의료기기는 식약처 허가 여부도 알 수 없고 안전성과 유효성도 검증되지 않았으므로 구매하지 않아야 합니다.”, MFDS)
What national health insurance covers
The National Health Insurance Service lists orthodontics among non-covered items: “C. Dental orthodontics. However, this excludes cases the Minister of Health and Welfare designates by notice, such as orthodontics to treat cleft lip and palate.” (our translation of “다. 치과교정. 다만, 입술입천장갈림증(구순구개열)을 치료하기 위한 치과교정 등 보건복지부장관이 정하여 고시하는 경우는 제외한다.”, NHIS)
What the orthodontists, the regulator and the foreign-patient rules say
In each body's own words, with our translation of the Korean:
- The Korean Association of Orthodontists. “Third, always have the consultation for orthodontic treatment with an orthodontic specialist, and only then start treatment.” (our translation of “셋째, 반드시 치아교정 전문의와 교정치료를 위한 상담을 진행하고 치료를 시작해야 한다.”, KAO) On clear aligners: “Saying that every case can be treated with clear aligners is an exaggeration, and you should not be taken in by it.” (our translation of “‘투명교정’으로 모든 케이스를 치료할 수 있다고 하는 것은 과장된 내용이며, 이에 현혹되시면 안 됩니다.”, KAO) And on aligners people make for themselves: “But clear aligners do not move teeth smoothly, so they are an appliance even orthodontic specialists use with care.” (our translation of “하지만 투명 교정장치는 치아를 원활히 이동시키지 못해 교정 전문의조차 사용에 신중을 기하는 장치다.”, KAO)
- The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Clear aligners: “They are custom-made to each person's teeth from an approved medical device ("dental orthodontic appliance resin").” (our translation of “허가받은 의료기기(‘치과교정장치용레진’)를 사용하여 개인의 치아모양에 따라 맞춤형으로 제작됩니다.”, MFDS)
- For foreign patients. “Since 2009, the Ministry of Health and Welfare(MOHW) has enforced the Foreign Patient Attraction Institution Registration System, ensuring the provision of safe and high-quality medical services.” (Medical Korea) “In 2016, the mandatory medical malpractice liability insurance was introduced, further enhancing accountability in medical accidents.” (Medical Korea) If something goes wrong: “The Korea Medical Dispute Mediation and Arbitration Agency, launched April 2012, provides free counseling services related to medical disputes.” (K-Medi) For foreigners who live in Korea: “The Seoul National University Dental Hospital provides International Dental Care Service (IDS) for foreign residents in Korea.” (SNU Dental Hospital)
Every brand's FDA reports and recalls are on the safety record.
Getting Invisalign in Korea as a visitor: the check-ups that follow

- The CDC. “Travelers may need to get health care in the United States if they develop complications after returning. Follow-up care for complications might be expensive.” (CDC) “Check the qualifications of the clinician who will be doing the procedure and the credentials of the facility where the procedure will be done.” (CDC)
