How much does Invisalign cost?
Invisalign publishes no price: your dentist or orthodontist sets the fee. Here is what US practices charge by type of case and in every state, what insurance and an HSA or FSA can take off, the extras a quote can leave out, and what other clear aligner brands charge. Every figure opens the page that states it.
Real Dental Costs puts full (Comprehensive) Invisalign treatment at US practices at $5,000 to $8,000, about $5,700 on average, and a minor Express or Lite case at $1,800 to $3,000. Across clear aligner cases, CareCredit's survey of US practices puts the average at $5,108. Invisalign itself says “In most cases, the cost of Invisalign treatment is comparable to the cost of braces.” (Invisalign) and that “With dental insurance, you may be covered up to $3,000 for orthodontic treatment.” (Invisalign)
The fee depends on how much your teeth need to move
In Invisalign's words: “Your doctor will determine the cost of your treatment based on how complex your case is and how many aligners you need.” (Invisalign) Typical US fees for each type of case, from Real Dental Costs:

Average cost of clear aligners in every state
From CareCredit's survey of practices in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, conducted by ASQ360° Market Research in 2023, averages “excluding any potential insurance coverage you may have” (CareCredit). The survey covers clear aligners as a whole: “"Clear aligners" is the generic term; most people have heard of Invisalign®, which is the largest brand of clear aligners used to straighten teeth.” (CareCredit) Lowest: Utah $3,668. Highest: Rhode Island $6,516.
What dental insurance pays
“Many dental insurance plans cover Invisalign treatment the same way they cover braces.” (Invisalign) “With dental insurance, you may be covered up to $3,000 for orthodontic treatment.” (Invisalign)
The data behind “up to $3,000” (OrthoFi data for calendar year 2021 on 112,243 US patients with dental insurance): “Coverage amount averaged $1,772 USD, with 92% qualifying for up to $3,000 USD and 77% qualifying for up to $2,000 USD in coverage for orthodontic treatment.” (Invisalign)
Adults versus children. The American Association of Orthodontists: “Many dental insurance plans include some orthodontic coverage for children under 18, although coverage is less common for adults.” (AAO)
- Delta Dental. “Invisalign treatment is covered as a standard benefit for all Delta Dental plans that include orthodontic coverage.” (Invisalign)
- Cigna. “Cigna’s Dental 1500 plan includes a $1,000 maximum benefit for orthodontic treatment that can be used toward Invisalign aligners.” ()
Paying with an HSA or FSA
- The IRS counts braces as a dental expense: “Treatment to alleviate dental disease includes services of a dentist for procedures such as X-rays, fillings, braces, extractions, dentures, and other dental ailments.” (IRS)
- The American Association of Orthodontists: “you can use funds from your HSA or FSA account for most orthodontic treatments.” (AAO)
- What counts: “Only the portion of your orthodontic payments not paid by your dental insurance or any other plan may be considered an eligible expense.” (AAO)
- Invisalign: “Use tax-free dollars from your health savings account (HSA) or flexible spending account (FSA) to help offset some of the cost.” (Invisalign)
Paying over time
“Many doctors offer flexible and affordable monthly payment plans, which allow you to make small payments over the course of your Invisalign treatment rather than all at once.” (Invisalign)
- Financing through HFD, as Invisalign describes it: “third-party platforms like HFD can stretch your payments across up to 72 months, often with 0% interest options available.” (Invisalign) Down payments: “initial down payments through HFD can be as low as $0, $199, or $499” (Invisalign).
- What it came to in Invisalign's examples: $105/mo for 36 months, $233/mo for 12 months and $58/mo for 24 months ().
